The Last Alamo by kiney©️ aka SSG Tyler

Written by kiney©️, The Last Alamo is a memoir that follows a man from Houston as he fulfills a long family legacy of military service and learns what it truly means to defend one's country. Moving from childhood in the Deep South through decades of Army life—from OD greens to BDUs to the Army Aircrew Combat Uniform—the narrative threads together family migration, neighborhood watchfulness, and early lessons in patriotism with the brutal realities of racism, combat, and command.

At its core, The Last Alamo centers on a single, harrowing moment at a FARP (Forward Arming and Refueling Point)—a temporary, mobile facility set up near a combat zone to quickly refuel and rearm aircraft, mainly helicopters—in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. When his aviation fuel squad is presumed wiped out, Sergeant Tyler must find his way through fire and fear to bring his crew to safety, ultimately making peace with the "dark passenger" born of childhood trauma that has followed him his entire life.
